Signs and Shapes in the Hand a Map of the Life Plan

by T Stokes

* Triangle The sign or seal known as the great triangle runs between the life, head and health or hepatica line. This triangle for health should be as big as possible. If the triangle is an acute one, this shows a creative artistic mind. The wide angle triangle always goes with a more practical head, a centered outlook. The ideal is an equilateral triangle, preferably not touching the life line at the hand base. When it does touch, examine the life line and other vitality sources for more information regarding health.

* Quadrangle The part known as the quadrangle is the space between the heart and head, ideally this should be the same width at both ends, but if the end under the first or Jupiter finger is wider it shows physical passion, wide at the other end shows creativity and spirituality. A cross in this space is usually the psychic cross. This shows intuitive ability. The rest of the hand will show how this energy is used.

* Above this the heart line, which is known in medicine as the upper transverse crease should be a deep pink colored unbroken line that reaches to between the first two fingers or the area on the mount of Jupiter, just under the first finger. If that ends in a small fork all to the good, as this shows flexibility and emotional range. Incidentally the medieval church - in the days when it taught astrology, numerology and palmistry - called this,“ the sign of the fish” as the fish was a sacred sign in Christianity. The fork was considered a favorable omen associated with those entering the service of the church. Remember Christ was an Essene, and as he came at the onset of the Piscean age, the fish symbols were used to show Christianity was the new Piscean way to interpret  scripture. Hindu palmistry has similar meanings. Some palmists start to read the heart line from the opposite end, depending on what information is needed in determining your plan of analysis. Expect a slight “C” shaped curve to the line, which is best.

* The head line, called the Table line since the roman times, as a flat even line gave a good mental table, showing level headedness, the ideal is just touching the life line at its start by the thumb. The best linear shape is a slight drooping to the mount of mars, at hands central edge, ending too high and we have the out and out materialist, too low with a moon based ending, and we have the artist or dreamer, but with a forked ending we have the authors mark, the other palmer signs will tell of the subject matter the author will be drawn to write about. The stronger side to the fork tells us which side to the nature is the most dominant. The fork can give versatility. It is a good sign of the mediator or counselor. It shows someone who can see other peoples views on things, the down side is that it brings indecision to the nature, very wide and we have difficulty here with a flexible personality or dual nature, which at times is an asset and at other times not.

* Thumb chain is the ring that encircles the base of the thumb, and is the only place in the hand where a chain is a good sign. Tibetan palmistry teaches that the rings or bubbles in this line tell of children, the Native American Indians have a similar teaching, but it is interchangeable with brothers and sisters. I have never found any of the ways of telling the numbers of children to be that accurate, and a lot more on this later, but this ring can be good for telling general detail about family chemistry.

* The fate line, mentioned in the bible as the “measuring line” this runs up the hand from the area of the bracelets lines to the Saturn, or middle finger. Ideally this should be clear, unbroken and straight. It gives us a picture of both the psychological landscape and the kind of work that the subject may engage in. I often read spinal injury detail here. It also gives information on the chakras, by the positioning of wavering thickness, signs and gaps. This line often has a large square at its end. This formation is favorable and is called the sign of the flag. Make particular notice of what is covered with the safety of the flag. Another interesting sign is that this line of fate can at times end in a trident, this is known in the east as the sign of the “temple” and is a good indicator of people who are often spiritually aware. Any piece missing on the line can have important meanings and omens for the person in terms of future changes. This is the only major line that shows change throughout the life. The other major lines are fixed, showing only subtle alterations. Main changes always show in the minor lines.

* The sun line is known in some schools as the line of Apollo. This can often take the shape of a tree with its roots on the heart line. This is next best to a firm deep single line, as it shows the base of the success is from compassion or warmth of the heart. This line is often connected with finances, but not always, as some of the most successful people have never made any money.

* The bracelets are the 3 lines that run across the hand base, and separate the hand from the wrist. The ideal here is that the lines should be even, unbroken and equi-distant. The ancient book of wisdom, the I Ching gives its trigram for this shape of 3 perfect lines as “heaven”. The ancient meaning is that it gives health, wealth and happiness. Nowadays we look all over the hand for confirmation.

* The minor shapes deserve their own article, but look quickly at your own hand for square shapes, which give protection in the area seen. Triangles are generally positive. Initials or numbers have meaning and the most positive sign of all and of which there is so much folklore, is the magic “M”. If the lines of heart, head, life and fate come together for a large letter “M” this is supposed to present the bearer with a good marriage, enough money and the ability to manage ones life. This comes from the ancient monks who saw that the letter was the 13th in the alphabet, and equated this with the 13 at the last supper, so the letter was a positive sign in the hand, against the bad luck of the number 13. Even during W.W.II this was seen as a good mark to have in the hand, for those in danger. Modern palmists tend to miss out on the old folklore concerning these things, but they are often of great interest in the art of self discovery.
