One of the most common injuries in
an automobile accident is whiplash. Even the most minimal rear
end collision can cause a whiplash leading to neck and upper
back tightness or pain. Even though pain may not immediately
be present, it usually appears within a few days. If you are
braced for impact, a minor accident will seldom cause a whiplash,
but when you are unprepared, it can cause a painful injury.
In the case of a serious automobile accident sometimes the
cervical vertebrae is broken, vertebral discs protrude, and pinched
nerves in the spine result.
This injury can cause headaches, dizziness, limited neck movement,
neck pain, stiff limited upper limbs function, shoulder pain,
arm pain, hand and finger pain, hand and finger tingling and
numbness, or muscle atrophy.
There are many therapies and medical treatments that can be
effective, but acupuncture is one of the best healing methods
for neck problems from a car accident. In the case of a whiplash,
I would check the entire body of the patient because there may
be other health problems resulting from the car accident. These
may include palpitation, muscle aches, depression, indigestion,
poor appetite, interrupted sleep, or shortness of breath. |
I prefer to treat the internal organs, depression, muscles
and nerves as well as the neck pain in a holistic manner so that
the patient gets better results. In this way, patients recover
faster and more completely, the convalescing time is shorter,
the neck muscles are stronger, and the patients improve more
quickly.
Needles may be applied to different places depending on each
individual condition. Some herbs may be prescribed to speed up
the healing processing.
Traditional Chinese medicine always stresses prevention. Never
drive when you are emotionally stressed, upset, sleepy, or tired.
When drinking alcohol, make sure to have a designated driver.
Always give yourself plenty of time to get to appointments. It
is better to make a call if you are running late than to try
to make it up on the road. Drive carefully to protect yourself
and others.
